A series of typographic posters I have created to motivate myself both professionally and personally.
The brief was to communicate the idea of guilty pleasures. I have chosen my guilty pleasure to be swearing. Whilst doing my research I found out that swearing is actually good for us as it’s a relief from stress and it helps to reduce pain. This inspired me to design medicine packaging.
Each box has a different strength, which is indicated on the right hand side diagram.
The ‘pill’ works only if it’s taken very rarely, especially with the worst swearing. The biggest profanity includes the biggest pills, but there are less of them.
The brand name came from two words: Profanity and Valium. The graphics in the logo are inspired by pills and soundwaves, which represent swearing out loud.
The colour of the pills depends on the swear word. For example ‘Shit’ pills are yellow because this word is in the middle of the list of the most vulgar words. ‘Fuck’ comes in red and ‘Crap’ comes in green, as it is not the worst swear word.
The idea for the cover came from the fact that there are plenty of Grimm’s Fairy Tales, hence the 7 books whose spines create an image. An idea for the illustration came from the fact that even though the fairy tales are for kids, they still include some grim, violent elements. To reflect this I decided to make the front cover the good side of Grimm’s fairy tales, while the back cover is the evil side, with witches, fear and blood. Also, the thing with fairy tales is the fact that they are loved, people come back to them, hence the old, used look of the books.
To bring a new approach to the way in which the popular story Little Snow White is illustrated, I took individual elements and focused on them instead of illustrating entire scenes. The book remains abstract and mystical and plays upon some of the dark themes in the narrative.
The book is hand made and bound, the title and a few snowflakes on the front and back cover are finished with a spot varnish.
Concept for The Casino, a part of the Poker Club in Nottingham.
Please note: The images I used are not mine. The function of them is to communicate the concept easily and to suggest what kind of images could be used for the actual product.
I have started this project to use my 3D skills in a more creative way and to experiment with the knowledge of 3D modelling I’ve gained.
